YOU'RE SO GOLDEN’ (2020)

Acrylic on canvas
L x W x D (cm): 100 x 150 x 4(cm)

‘YOU’RE SO GOLDEN’ is a work which represents the culture among women, in particular teenage girls, to urinate and take toilet trips together on drunken evenings out. The work, although abject in some ways, is an empowering reclamation of the female body and bodily functions as well as representation of the kind of relationship between my friend and I, the shameless intimacy and hilarity we shared during this captured moment.

GO AND PLAY WITH YOUR SISTER

Acrylic on canvas
L x W x D (cm): 150 x 100 x 4 (cm)

'Go and Play With Your Sister is an empowering feminine work which also has slightly suggestive and controversial connotations. Referencing a Paula Rego work (Girl Lifting Up Her Skirt to a Dog ) the figure makes a similar action in expression of both sexual desire and frustration – asserting her desires directly to the viewer. The composition of this work is invasive to the viewer – the figures intentionally dominate the space to further ideas about female power.

MIND THE NAP’ (2021)

Acrylic on canvas
L x W x D (cm): 150 x 100 x 4 (cm)

The title of the work ‘mind the nap’ references the tube announcement ‘mind the gap’ but also the mothing nature of the feminine figure. The female figure is dominating and presents feminine strength – looking powerfully out of the painting directly at the viewer. Despite a restricted view, there is a sense of empowered energy from female stare in the work, whilst male figure almost appears submissive, bowing their head towards the female's lap.
